net-snmp-5.9.4
Build times (auto-updated)
- x86_64: 8m19s (2026-10-11 20:03 UTC, MAKEFLAGS=-j6)
- Category:
adapted/ (plain local-tracked directory, not a submodule –
most of adapted/ isn’t – see scripts/add_adapted.sh’s own doc comment
for why that script didn’t fit here: it only vendors existing AUR
packages, and this package doesn’t exist on AUR at all).
- Why this exists: the user needed
libnetsnmpagent.so.40.2.1
specifically. Official Arch net-snmp is at 5.9.5.2, shipping
libnetsnmpagent.so.45.0.0 – a different soname (.so.45, not .so.40).
Bisected via git history alone (no actual build-bisection needed):
net-snmp’s Makefile.top sets LIBCURRENT/LIBAGE/LIBREVISION
explicitly per release, and the real installed filename is
.so.$((CURRENT-AGE)).$AGE.$REVISION (standard libtool-on-Linux
convention, confirmed against the current 45.0.0 example: LIBCURRENT=45
LIBAGE=0 LIBREVISION=0 at the commit matching 5.9.5.2). Walked the file’s
git log for the exact triplet giving (CURRENT-AGE)=40, AGE=2, REVISION=1
-> found LIBCURRENT=42 LIBAGE=2 LIBREVISION=1, set by commit a739ce674
(“version update for 5.9.4.pre2”, 2023-04-03) and unchanged through the
real v5.9.4 tag (2023-08-15) – confirmed directly against that tag’s
Makefile.top. The very next real release, v5.9.5 (2025-12-20), jumps
straight to 45/0/0. So 5.9.4 is the last (and only full, non-.pre)
release providing this exact soname – no 5.9.4.x point releases exist.
- Asked the user whether this should be a real new AUR submission (matching
the [[icu74]]/icu75/icu76 “we maintain this legacy-version shim on AUR”
pattern) or stay purely local – chose local-only, so this is NOT pushed to
AUR, just a fork of the official Arch
net-snmp PKGBUILD
(gitlab.archlinux.org/archlinux/packaging/packages/net-snmp) pinned to
the v5.9.4 git tag, with pkgname carrying the version
(net-snmp-5.9.4, matching this tree’s existing openssl-1.0-style
versioned-fork naming).
- Libraries only, by design:
package() keeps ONLY the real
versioned .so.40.2.1 files (libnetsnmp, libnetsnmpagent, libnetsnmphelpers
[actually produced as part of the agent lib set], libnetsnmpmibs,
libnetsnmptrapd, libsnmp) and strips everything else (usr/bin,
usr/include, unversioned .so symlinks, pkgconfig, share,
perl/python modules) – so it coexists with the official net-snmp
package instead of conflicting with it, same shim pattern as
icu72/icu73/icu74-76’s “keep only the libraries” package() step.
No explicit provides=() needed – makepkg’s automatic shared-library
scan picks up the real sonames from the kept files.
validpgpkeys (Net-SNMP Administrators key, verifying the signed git tag)
– ran scripts/update_pgp_key_dir.sh before building, same as any
validpgpkeys-bearing package.
- 2026-10-11: first build – namcap flagged a real missing dependency,
libxcrypt (provides libcrypt.so.2, actually linked by
libnetsnmpagent/libnetsnmpmibs/libnetsnmptrapd). Fixed, pkgrel
1 -> 2, rebuilt+republished clean. End state: x86_64, 5.9.4-2, confirmed
libnetsnmpagent.so.40.2.1 present in the packaged files.
