2026-09-22: i686 build fails – real version-skew + ABI inconsistency in the i686 repos, not fixable here

pkg-config gtk+-2.0 fails because several transitive deps are below the versions gtk2’s own .pc files require on that arch: fontconfig >= 2.17.0, glib-2.0/gio-2.0/gobject-2.0 >= 2.82, harfbuzz(-gobject) >= 8.4.0 – all “could not be satisfied” against what’s actually installed. Confirmed this isn’t just a stale local chroot: ran a full pacman -Syu against the archlinuxaba-i686 chroot’s root copy first (reported “there is nothing to do”, i.e. already at the latest available in-repo versions) and the failure persisted identically. The i686/archlinux32 repos themselves are simply behind on these packages relative to what’s on x86_64.

On top of the version gap, there’s a genuine ABI inconsistency already installed: gtk-query-immodules-2.0: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libpangoft2-1.0.so.0: undefined symbol: FcConfigSetDefaultSubstitute – pango was built against a newer fontconfig than what’s actually present. Not something a local reinstall/refresh fixes; would need archlinux32’s own maintainers to catch these packages up, or us to rebuild the whole fontconfig/glib2/harfbuzz/pango chain for i686 ourselves (a much bigger undertaking, same class of problem as ffmpeg7.1-for-aarch64 in memory/makemkv.md). Not attempted – x86_64 publish is unaffected and is the important target for this package.
